Words From Jesse Salcedo, Tipi Expert
“Hi, my name is Jesse Salcedo. I have been a licensed contractor for more than 30 years and am redirecting my energy to honor Mother Earth. This work pays honor to my American-Indian heritage and brings my customers closer to nature. I am of Apache and Mexican heritage. It is important that I do this with grace and honor; it has to do with linking people to tradition.
I have been associated with Bridge School Benefit Concerts, Pegi and Neil Young, since 1998. I’ve been donating tipis for a raffle, for the benefit of the school since then as well.
Moreover, I have been participating in the Stanford Powwow since 1995 as well as in the Mariposa Pow Wow and Mexican New Year’s Celebration in San Jose and various community events throughout the state of California.
I have been involved in veterans’ issues since 1982 and have continued to use the tipi and my Mexican-Native American culture as a teaching opportunity for those in need. I have installed tipis at Alcatraz Island for several years.
I was born on a grape, walnut, and Bartlett pear ranch, 12 miles south of Hollister, California. Rural, solitude, and independence have been a way of life for me my entire life. I have had a strong work ethic, thanks to my Father, and the migrant workers employed at the ranch, with an eye for quality.”
